Miss Colombia Breaks Her Silence After Miss Universe Snafu

'My destiny was this,' Ariadna Gutierrez wrote.
Despite going through a whirlwind of devastating and embarrassing emotions during Sunday night’s Miss Universe pageant, Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, is reflecting on the experience with nothing but class.
A shocked live television audience watched as Gutierrez was awarded and then immediately stripped of the Miss Universe title, after host Steve Harvey mistakenly named her the winner. The controversial coronation was painfully awkward to watch and became even more cringeworthy when Harvey later tried to apologize with an error-filled tweet.
Anyway, instead of hiding away and drowning her sorrows in Ben & Jerry’s, like most of us would probably be inclined to do, Gutierrez shared a touching message for her fans on Instagram on Tuesday (Dec. 22). And it sounds like she’s handling this whole blunder beautifully.
“After the storm comes the calm,” the 21-year-old model and TV host wrote. “I want to thank each and everyone of you who have sent messages of support and strength. Every one of you has become an incredible human being in my book and I am the most fortunate and thankful for having the support not only from one country but from the whole entire world.
“Your destiny is written for you,” she continued. “And my destiny was this. I was able to bring happiness to my country after becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes… Today because of that COLOMBIA and the LATIN COMMUNITY are being talked about in every corner of the world.”
Ever the graceful runner-up, Gutierrez also shared well wishes for the rightful victor, Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach.
“I also want to congratulate the Philippines for their new Miss Universe 🙏🏼,” she wrote. “The happiness that you must be feeling must be incredible. Life continues and in the future we will find out why things happen the way they happen. Thank you all for your LOVE SUPPORT and KINDNESS. ❤️”
Earlier in the day, Gutierrez also shared a photo of her brief turn wearing the crown, writing, “This moment will always be with me.”
